AsSalaamualaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatahu!
My name is Rebecca. I’m an American expat from Brooklyn, NY currently residing in Islamabad, Pakistan. I moved to Pakistan several years ago when I got married. At the time, I didn’t know ANYTHING about living here, nor did I know how to cook beyond eggs and spaghetti. My whole life, I’d been completely devoted to academia—standard, bookish knowledge. I’d never given much thought to the practical art of cooking for a family, entertaining guests and running a home. The learning experience was a very interesting one, you can imagine.
This blog is a little bit about that learning experience. If you’re looking for someone who has all the answers, you’re going to have to find another blog. This is about a journey towards self-discovery through lots of trial and error. It’s about learning to cook and run a home and adjust to life in a different country in an (oftentimes) extremely messy way. It’s about picking yourself up and starting over when you’ve made a mistake. Above all, it’s about never, ever giving up, no matter how insurmountable the task may seem. This is my story, and I’m sure parts of it are yours as well: The disappointments, the defeats, the small victories, the triumphs, the tears and the laughter, all of it in varying degrees in this test that we call “Life.”
Maybe we can learn from each other, or maybe we can hang out in the same boat for a while.
So grab a slice of Spicy Pizza, read my story, and try out my recipes. I’d love to hear what you think!
